The Piano House is a proposed 1,900 square feet live/work dwelling for a musician. The site is located in a nitty gritty lane in Bulwer Street, just way o of the busy intersection of Queen St. W and Spadina Ave. in Toronto. The client’s interest in concrete, texture, light and shadows in open spaces led to a new and interesting interpretation of a living/working habitat for a musician.
The design attempts to challenge the modern ideals of an urban residential/work environment constantly looking for a space inspired by music and that inspire the musician’s creative process. The architectural choices are meant to confront these same ideals in a playful manner, while relate to specific music features or musical instruments.
